Emerald Ash Borer

Do you have an emerald ash borer infestation? The ARBORIA team serves Sherbrooke, Magog, and other cities in the region, offering preventive inspections, insecticide treatments, and tree removal.
Our arborists work closely with municipalities, which must enforce regulations set by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency regarding the emerald ash borer.
For example, the transport of infested ash wood must be strictly controlled to prevent the spread of the insect from one region to another.
In fact, emerald ash borer larvae can survive for several months inside freshly cut trees or fallen branches.

What is the Emerald Ash Borer?

The emerald ash borer is an insect resembling a grasshopper, originally from South Asia, that specifically attacks ash trees.
These small, green beetles are difficult to detect but can be spotted between mid-May and late July. Under the bark, their larvae create large, S-shaped galleries. Infested ash trees quickly show signs of distress: their leaves turn yellow, branches wither, and within two to three years, the tree dies. In severe cases, some trees may die within a single year.

Prevention & Treatment

Regular tree inspections and maintenance help prevent diseases and insect infestations.

Our team can also apply preventive treatments before your ash trees show signs of infestation.

Infested mature ash trees should be treated every two years with TreeAzin insecticide to preserve them. TreeAzin injections must be administered by our arborists between June 15 and August 31.

Once signs of decline are visible, the infestation is already critical beneath the bark. In such cases, tree removal is strongly recommended to prevent the larvae from reproducing the following year.

If you delay action, removing a dead tree can be significantly more expensive. For smaller ash trees, it is often best to remove and replace them with another tree species.
